The European painter lived for a total of 63 years and was born in the year 1577 in Siegen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and passed away in 1640 in Antwerp, Antwerpen province, Flanders, Belgium.

This sensitive portrait on copper is one of Rubens’s earliest known works. The square and dividers may refer to architecture or geography, while the watch is a reminder of mortality.
